My Nightmare with Kraken Exchange short story here: I used to Kraken exchange for several years. It had everything a beginner needed. Staking for various coins was my favourite feature. But one day, out of nowhere, my account’s previously approved verification was reset. No warning. No email. Nothing. And worst of all - I couldn’t withdraw my funds. I immediately opened a support ticket. It was mid-July. [Week 1 – Silence] I submitted all the necessary documents for KYC verification and waited. No response. A week later, I sent a polite reminder. [Week 2 – More Silence] No updates. No emails. My funds remained locked. I started to worry. [Weeks 3, 4, 5 – The Waiting Game] By the end of July, frustration turned into disbelief. I had sent multiple follow-ups, yet Kraken remained silent. Five weeks had passed, and still, nothing. Then I discovered something even worse - I couldn’t create a new support ticket because their automated system blocked it if you have an unresolved previously opened ticket. Desperate, I began emailing support@kraken.com again in previously created support ticket thread. Hoping that someone would finally respond. [Weeks 6, 7, 8 – The Coldest Response] Then, in mid-September, after nearly two months of complete silence, Kraken finally replied: > Hello, > We hope this email finds you well. > We regret to inform you that your Kraken account will be closed. For security reasons, we are unable to provide you the reason why. We are unable to discuss this matter further. > As you still have balance in your account, we request you to withdraw the remaining balance off the platform to another wallet address. > Kindly inform us upon initiating the withdrawals, as we will need to conduct an additional review. > Kindly note that you may no longer use our services. > We are looking forward to receiving your reply as soon as possible. > Regards,Eric, Kraken Support I reread the message, hoping I had misunderstood. "For security reasons, we are unable to provide you the reason why." Whaaat??? I had provided all my legal documents. I hadn’t made any suspicious withdrawals. I hadn’t broken any rules. Yet they wouldn’t tell me why they were shutting down my account? An exchange meant for customers was treating me like a faceless statistic, dismissing my concerns without explanation. [The Final Escape] The next few days were nerve-wracking but finally I was able to transfer all my crypto out of Kraken (each withdrawal TX should be approved by support team). But here’s the thing: it wasn’t just that my account was closed without warning. It was the absolute disregard for their users — the months of ignoring emails, the complete lack of communication, and the cold, robotic response at the end. Kraken taught me a lesson I’ll never forget. If you value your funds and your sanity, I suggest you think twice before trusting Kraken with yours.
